En las últimas horas Toyota sacó a la luz que el Toyota Prius tenía una falla en el motor que tenía que ser reparado, ya que esto ocasionaría un frenado instantáneo del vehículo y aumentaría el riesgo de colisión. Esto involucra a 752 mil vehículos híbridos de ma marca Japonesa al rededor del mundo, en el que se encuentran el Prius modelo 2013 a 2015 y Prius V modelos de 2014 a 2017. Toyota comunicó que los vehículos híbridos suelen entrar en modo seguro al detectar una falla en el sistema híbrido, pero en estos modelos habían excepciones, ya que al detectar habían ciertos vehículos dentro de los modelos ya mencionados que no entraban en modo seguro, esto ocasionaría un pérdida de potencia y un frenado del vehículo, lo que a altas velocidades incrementaría el riesgo de choque.
